Head Coach - Mike Gooding
Mike is the Head Professional at the National Tennis Club at the International Tennis Hall of Fame, bringing over 30 years of professional experience to Newport. In his time as a Touring Professional, Mike had reached a World Ranking of #1 in Doubles, World Ranking of #2 in Singles and #1 in the UK. Additionally, Mike has worked as a Professional at several clubs in the UK before becoming the Head Court Tennis and Rackets Professional at the Racquet & Tennis Club in New York City from 2004-2014. Immediately prior to joining the International Tennis Hall of Fame staff in December 2016, Mike was Head Professional of Georgian Court University and Club in Lakewood, NJ, where he helped found the court tennis team at the university.
While at Georgian Court, Mike founded the University's court tennis team which is still operational today. Until the creation of the Salve team, the Georgian Court team was the only of its kind in the nation. Mike knows exactly what it takes to get a team up and running and we value his expertise and opinion.
Nick was born in Bordeaux, France but was raised in England. He grew up with the game of court tennis as his father is a professional tennis player and a former no 4 player in the world. Despite growing up with the game, Nick had a keen focus on other sports and had a sports scholarship to the Oratory School for cricket and rugby. He ended up taking the game of golf up during his school years and became a very good amateur and turned professional in 2005 with a handicap of +2.
Towards the end of 2011 Nick gave up golf and accepted a job at Royal Melbourne Tennis Club in March 2012. Nick quickly got to grips with the game and rose through the ranks during his first 3 years as a pro. He accepted a job as senior professional at the National Tennis Club in March 2015 and is now a top 10 ranked player in the world; he is currently ranked at #6 in the world and recently won the British Open doubles title with partner Rob Fahey.
