Our Story

Shortly before winter break 2017, Trevor Jones, a member of the men's tennis team at Salve Regina, decided to take a court tennis lesson at the National Tennis Club in his quest to try every racquet sport in the world. Instantly, he was hooked. After the lesson, Mike Gooding, head pro, brought up to him that it might be possible to get a team going at Salve. And thus was the beginning of a project that would become the Salve Regina Court Tennis Club.

Working tirelessly to secure funding, create schedules, nail down a lineup, and promote the sport of court tennis, Trevor and Mike teamed up to bring court tennis to Salve Regina University. Salve is one of only two schools in the entire nation to have a court tennis team; the other is Georgian Court University, a fellow Sisters of Mercy-founded school (where the court tennis team was also, in part, founded by Mike). Salve court tennis was founded on the premise of brining this unique, historic sport to a school that has the good fortune to be in proximity to one of only a handful courts in use in the entire nation as well as to spread the game of court tennis to a younger generation.
